No Complaints Here!

June 26, 2019

After a slightly whack day yesterday, I was so looking forward to this wonderful AirBNB Experience today. And it did not let me down!

I’d found this metal workshop where you could design your own piece of jewellery, and then the wonderful jeweller would teach you how to make it, alongside you actually doing much of the work!

I literally could not have had a better time (well, AC would have been excellent…), and I am so proud of how it turned out.

Now don’t get me wrong, she did do a lot of the difficult stuff, but, I would say I did about 70% of the work, so that feels good!

The design was inspired by an icon that I saw online.

Here are some pictures of the process and then the final necklace!

I’d taken some video but my camera doesn’t label them as video when you’re scrolling through on the actual screen, so it seems as though I thought they were just blurry photos and deleted them. Ugh, user error is so annoying!

Anyhow, I had SUCH a good time!

From there, I took the recommendation of the lovely jewellery maker to go to a restaurant just near her place. It did not disappoint. In fact, the salad was out-of-this-damn-world!

It’s bigger than it looks because it continues down into a deeper bowl, and under the tomatoes and cheese (suuuuuch delicious cheese), there are these huge croutons covered and soaked in the same dressing, but still crispy. I mean, I’m absolutely going back for this salad. At least once.

I also had the grilled squid, which was very good as well! But, not as good as the salad!

They give you two little pieces of a sweet treat at the end, which is the Greek version of my understanding of Turkish Delight, and lord, guys, it was amazing!

It was so good that I bought their last three boxes. I mean, I have to bring something back to share with people! It made on the Greek island of Syros, and so now I think I need to find an excursion there to see how it’s made!

This is what the place looks like inside, as well as the menu. The cheese on the salad is Sour Mizothra, and it blew my mind. The “sour” threw me off when I read it, but it was perfectly lovely!

After lunch, I wanted to go to the Monastiraki Flea Market, so made my way there via GoogleMaps. Or so I thought. I got lost. I don’t know how, but it could have to do with how many tiny little turns there are in Athens, or you know, more likely it was me being bad at following a little blue arrow on a map… oh Hayley.

Anyhow, I ended up seeing some fun stuff along my way to getting lost.

That second last image is the Parthenon, and it's the closest I’ve gotten so far! I think Friday is the day I’ll go on the full Acropolis adventure.

Dinner tonight was yesterday's leftover chicken, and I did laundry while that heated up. I got in early because I have a very early start tomorrow, having to meet a group tour guide at 7:05am for a three-island tour! I’m very excited and can’t wait to see this giant “ship” I'll be on with a billion other tourists like myself.

More on that tomorrow! Have a great night!

PS. I looked up how to make Greek baklava and found what I believe to be one of the funniest videos online. The son asks his mother to show him how to make baklava, and she’s my food soulmate!

Their family dynamic had me bursting out laughing, so please enjoy (when she fights with her husband and son around 6m 20s… I cannot stop laughing)!
